 The park offers powered and unpowered sites (for tents/caravans), drive-through sites for larger rigs, plus a collection of cabins ranging from basic budget cabins to family and premium cabins, and its features include BBQ areas, indoor & outdoor camp kitchens, laundry facilities, and a playground near the beach. 

 Dogs are permitted in parts of the park (though not all cabins are pet-friendly), so travellers with pets should check ahead.

Excellent location to use as a base: About halfway between Launceston and Burnie on Tasmania’s north coast, and around 90 minutes drive from Cradle Mountain.factor.

Facilities iinclude clean shower and toilet blocks, laundry facilities, BBQ and camp kitchen areas. For example, showers were reported at ~$1 for hot water. 

Pet-friendly (with conditions) and in a very quiet, family-friendly setting.

Forth

Located on Mell Street in the small town of Forth (Tasmania, postcode 7310), the site is a grassy sports-ground setting that accommodates self-contained caravans and motorhomes for up to 48 hours, with a donation requested for its upkeep.  

Parking is around the oval with plenty of space, and basic amenities include toilets, drinking water and rubbish bins.  

 Being close to the town means convenience for a quick stop-over: the petrol station and local shops are nearby, and mobile phone reception is available. 

The camp is pet-friendly (on leash) and is most suited for self-contained rigs (tents are generally discouraged).

 It’s a no-frills, low-cost option for travellers looking to rest up, explore the area or access nearby attractions without staying in a full-service caravan park.

This site is good for large rigs, with sealed access road and room to manoeuvre.

Bring your own water and prepare accordingly.  Dog restrictions may apply because of the penguin colony—check current signage.

Unpowered sites (no electricity supply) but drinking water available. Dump point on site. No toilets or showers. 

Short walk into the Stanley town centre and local amenities (cafés, seafood, heritage buildings). Good location for a stopover.

Cost: Approximately AUD $15/night or $70 for a week (check current rates).

    Size & access: small campground—limited number of sites (so getting there early recommended), some of the upper sites have harder access and are less level for larger vans. 

    Exposed to strong winds (the “Roaring Forties” weather influences), so be prepared for changeable conditions.

     No powered sites; all sites are unpowered. Cost: From about A$15 per night for 2 adults (as at recent listings) in the serviced section. The area is large, grassy and can handle bigger rigs; some areas may be uneven so choose your spot wisely.

    There is water on site (though it must be boiled or treated) and flushing toilet facilities. 

    • Pets are allowed (on-lead). Maximum of 6 people per site.

    Rangers Station Campsite

     The campsite is in the western region of Tasmania (West Coast / Tarkine area) near Arthur River – a remote, natural setting.

    Ideal for those seeking a quieter bush-camping experience, away from major holiday-park amenities.

    Very small site: “very small, clean toilets and cold showers” are noted. Maximum stay of 72 hours for self-contained campers.

    Water supply is bore water and not treated for drinking; signage advises to boil before using.

    Prickly wattle campground

    Fires permitted (when fire-ban conditions allow). Wood may not be taken from standing trees — only fallen/collected wood is acceptable. 

    • Some mobile phone coverage may be limited; you’ll want to bring supplies and be self-sufficient.

    Gold, gold, gold! Fossicking at Lefroy

    Lefroy: The six pub town I have always found it rather interesting that the population and wealth of Australian historic mining areas seem to be always measured by the number of pubs (hotels) it had. Lefroy sits around 15 km south-east of the cottage and 58 km north-east of Launceston. Originally known as Nine Mile Springs it was changed to Lefroy in 1881 after the visit by the Acting Governor, Sir Henry Lefroy. It was a bustling town, which is said to have contained 5,000 people in its peak boom period of 1890-95. It was the fourth largest town in Tasmania,. Gold was known to exist in the hills around Lefroy in the 1840s, but exploration was discouraged because of a fear that the convicts would find out and rebel.
